Not many skip out on the lucrative Indian Premier League and fewer would dare do it at the peak of their powers.
But for Blackcaps speedster Kyle Jamieson, taking time away from the pitch has him raring to go for the Blackcaps tour of the UK next month.
The defending champions sit sixth in the ICC Test Championship, with only two wins from six matches, but a series against bottom-ranked England could be the catalyst for change.
Jamieson will be key to their success on the predictably green wickets, but some much-needed rest has him itching to get his giant hands on the Duke cricket ball.
"I think the way the schedule is nowadays, it's so hard to play all the time," he said. "I'm only two years into my career, I want to learn and I want to get better.
"I needed to take a step back to refresh physically and mentally. It's been nice to spend some time at home, spend some time with my partner and have a normal Monday-to-Friday existence, which is a rarity for us.
"Nice to be recharged and ready to go."
Ben Stokes has been tasked with leading England's turnaround, replacing former captain Joe Root, after they won just one of their past 17 test matches.
But Jamieson rejects the claim England are 'vulnerable' and insists neither team's previous results will determine the outcome of the series.
"They've got some world-class players, their past form doesn't count for much in my eyes," he said. "They're a very good team as well, especially at home.
"You want to win every game you play, but that's not always the case. It's tough at times, every team has some pretty good players.
"We're always trying to get better and improve."
