Midfielder Reno Piscopo is the latest player to jump from Wellington Phoenix, since their A-League season ended in an early playoff exit this month.
The Aussie was rumoured to be heading to a rival club next season and Wellington have confirmed he has played his last game for the Phoenix - for now.
"I wish him all the best and I thoroughly enjoyed working with him," said Phoenix head coach Ufuk Talay. "Reno’s a talented player, which I still believe hasn't really reached his full potential.
"I think injuries hindered that potential and talent to come out the last two seasons. He's a good kid, he's got a great character and I think he'll have success wherever he goes, because I think he has the right tools to do that.
"I think he's going to be a very good player. I think he's a really talented player with a lot of attributes that will push him to have a really good career."
Since joining the club in 2019, Piscopo, 23, has played 59 games for the Phoenix, scoring eight goals and assisting on eight others. He enjoyed his best campaign during the 2021/22 summer, producing three goals in four games during February alone.
His performance has been rewarded with selection for A-League All-Star squad to face FC Barcelona at Sydney this week.
Earlier this week, Wellington confirmed the departure of seven players, including frontliners Jaushua Sotirio, Gael Sandoval, Gary Hooper, James McGarry. Veteran defender Louis Fenton, 29, has also announced his retirement, after more than 150 games for the club.
Wellington made the A-League playoffs for the third time in four seasons, finishing sixth in the regular season, before falling 1-0 to Western United in the elimination final.
