Supercars championship leader Shane van Gisbergen was beaten by Cam Waters at the Winton Raceway finale as the Ford star charged to victory on Sunday.

Van Gisbergen took three tyres at his stop and quickly ate into a six-second margin.

On the penultimate lap, Waters was joined by van Gisbergen, as he was on Saturday.

This time, they avoided contact, but the margin was 0.4s all the same.

It was the second time Waters had won two races in the same weekend in his career, following Townsville 2021.

New Zealander Andre Heimgartner finished a lonely third, some 10.7s from the race leader.

"[It feels] pretty good," Heimgartner said.

"This one was purely on speed, which is nice, like Perth, we got lucky with the safety car.

"It's just a credit to the guys, we have turned it around from the start of the weekend.

"We were 17th and 18th and we slowly chipped away between the last race and this race.

"We managed to change a car and make a big step forward with our race pace, as you saw there.

"I'm over the moon, I think it's just the consistency that we need.

"I'm looking forward to the rest of the year, and slowly chipping away, and seems like we have found something good."

Waters had just enough margin to hang onto victory in the closing stages of the third race of the meet, which was the seventh of his career.

"So pumped to get it done, two wins this weekend," Waters said after the race.

"It means so bloody much, they [Tickford] work so bloody hard. "I can't thank them enough for all their effort.

"We still have a lot to catch this guy on race pace, but we'll keep pushing."

Van Gisbergen will carry an extended 281-point lead over Anton De Pasquale to Darwin, while Waters has moved into third overall.

The 2022 Supercars season will resume next month.
