Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen has stretched his lead in the Aussie Supercars championship with a groundbreaking victory at Perth's Wanneroo Raceway.
The result marks the defending champion's first success in Western Australia - his 61st career race win - and Holden's 600th ever. Ford have yet to win this year, despite starting eight of the 10 races on pole position.
"Although it's no longer with us, it's cool to have it for the General Motors," van Gisbergen said. "For us to represent it still is pretty cool."
Not only has the Kiwi achieved almost 10 percent of Holden's total victories, he's also accounted for their 450th, 500th, 550th and now 600th race wins. Holden officially retired from Supercars in 2020 and will be replaced by Chevrolet Camaro next year.
In the first of three sprint races this weekend, the Kiwi chased down Anton De Pasquale and passed him on lap 43 of 46, extending his championship lead over his rival to 157 points with his seventh win over the campaign.
De Pasquale and Cam Waters filled the other podium spots.
"I haven't had the best run, but I always enjoy this event," said van Gisbergen. "They were really fast at the start, I thought I was going to drop off.
"When they pitted early, I was surprised."
Two more sprint races are scheduled for Wanneroo Raceway on Sunday.
