Brisbane Broncos continued their rich vein of form with a 36-12 win over Newcastle Knights in their NRL showdown at McDonald Jones Stadium on Thursday night.
After being locked at 6-6 at halftime, the Broncos caught fire in the second half, running in five tries to one to bolt to their fifth consecutive victory, despite being without star halfback Adam Reynolds, who was a late scratch with injury.
A piece of brilliance from Kalyn Ponga ensured the contest was still in the balance at 14-12 with 20 minutes to play, until Cobbo and Oates combined for three quick tries to take the game away from the Knights.
The lethal wing duo were the chief destroyers for the Broncos. Breakthrough sensation Selwyn Cobbo ran for a staggering 223 metres, making 10 linebreaks on his way to a brace of tries.
Corey Oates was close behind with 191 metres, six tackle breaks, and a try, as well as some key kick receptions.
Kiwi fullback Te Maire Martin had another impressive outing in his incredible comeback journey, laying on Cobbo's second try with a brilliant long ball and making some critical plays at the defensive end.
The win moves to the Broncos up to fourth on the NRL ladder, while the Knights remain in 14th.
