All Blacks preparation for this week's first test against Ireland has hit a hurdle, with several players and staff testing positive for COVID-19.
Coach Ian Foster, assistant coach John Plumtree, and midfielders David Havili and Jack Goodhue have returned positive tests before the first test at Auckland's Eden Park on Saturday.
As a result, assistant coaches Brad Mooar and Scott McLeod will assume co-head coaching roles for the week. Foster will continue to work with the team, albeit remotely.
"We've had a plan for this happening, and it's a great opportunity for the wider coaching group and the senior players, who will be highly motivated to step up," he said.
"We have learned how to cope with the unexpected, like everyone has over the past couple of years. I will still be working alongside the coaches and team via Zoom, and I have huge faith in the coaching group and the players.
"We have structures in place and everyone is working together."
The two coaches have stayed home to isolate, while Havili and Goodhue haven't travelled to Auckland with the rest of the squad.
The loss of Havili and Goodhue is a blow to selection plans, leaving just three available midfielders for the first test - Rieko Ioane, Quinn Tupaea and uncapped Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.
Utility back Braydon Ennor has been called into the squad as cover for his missing Crusaders teammates, while Jordie Barrett could also deputise in midfield, if needed.
