Former Silver Ferns captain Ameliaranne Ekenasio has been overlooked for Dame Noeline Taurua's squad to travel to the Birmingham Commonwealth Games next month.
Ekenasio, 31, is a notable absentee from the 12-strong squad, after expressing her doubts over selection to Newshub, fearing she would fail the strict fitness standards.
However, the shooter has been named as a reserve for the selected squad and could replace Grace Nweke, who faces further fitness testing, after injuring an ankle towards the end of the ANZ Premiership.
Gina Crampton has been named captain for her first Commonwealth Games, as one of eight players to make their debuts at Birmingham.
Vice-captain Sulu Fitzpatrick, Maia Wilson, Grace Nweke, Whitney Souness, Kate Heffernan, Phoenix Karaka and Kayla Johnson are the other seven players picked for their first Games.
Johnson will make a belated debut at the Commonwealth Games, four years after injury cost her a spot at Gold Coast 2018.
Aside from Ekenasio, the quartet of Claire Kersten, Tiana Metuarau, Mila Reuelu-Buchanan and Elle Temu have also been named as reserves.
"Being a part of the greater New Zealand team and being a part of some of the unique traditions at the Commonwealth Games will be a new experience for many of these players," Dame Noeline said.
"We have a job to do in Birmingham, but we're also looking forward to being a team within a team and to be a part of something big.
"To stand alongside New Zealand's top athletes from various sports is something special."
The Silver Ferns are looking for a vast improvement on their 2018 performance, where they became the first New Zealand side to fail to win a netball medal at the Commonwealth Games.
