Saturday's rugby league test between NZ Kiwis and Mate Ma'a Tonga has been overshadowed, as a small group attacked a corporate box at Mt Smart Stadium.
As a capacity crowd of 27,000 fans packed into Mt Smart to see the Kiwis' 26-6 victory over Tonga, a video posted on social media shows three men climbing from the stands towards the corporate box.
After a short standoff, one of the men throws a stool at another, before two men draped in Tongan flags attempt to force their way inside the box.
The first man then throws a chair, this time at one of the glass windows, causing it to crack.
The incident left fans nearby fearing for their safety, as the two groups exchanged projectiles.
"[It began] in the upper level and then the VIP area," a witness told Newshub. "Someone threw a bottle from there and hit a little girl in the lower level where we were seated.
"The family of that little girl and the Tongans thought it was from [the] VIP area so they [started] yelling and climbing and it escalated from there.
"I moved my kids next to the grass area and kept them there."
Aside from the incident, the witness says there were no other problems in the crowd throughout the night, which also saw the Kiwi Ferns beat Tonga in the earlier match.
