The Blackcaps have been dealt a major blow on the eve of their second test against England on Friday.
Captain Kane Williamson has tested positive for COVID-19 and will play no part in the match at Nottingham's Trent Bridge. Tom Latham will take over the captaincy.
Williamson undertook a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) after experiencing minor symptoms during the day and will now begin five days of isolation.
NZ Cricket confirmed the rest of the touring party had returned negative tests and will continue following the tour health protocols of symptom reporting and subsequent testing if required.
Coach Gary Stead confirmed Hamish Rutherford would join the squad tomorrow morning as Williamson's replacement. Rutherford was with the squad earlier in the tour and has been playing for Leicestershire Foxes in the English T20 Blast competition.
"It's such a shame for Kane to be forced to withdraw on the eve of such an important match," Stead said.
"We're all feeling for him at this time and know how disappointed he will be."
Williamson's ommision puts more pressure on an already wounded Blackcaps squad, with Colin de Grandhomme having left the tour due to a heel injury.
Allrounder Wellington Michael Bracewell firms to make his test debut, after joining the squad this week as de Grandhomme's replacement.
Stead may look to promote Devon Conway and freshly fit Henry Nicholls up the order, allowing Bracewell to slot in the middle.
After falling to a five-wicket loss in the first test at Lord's, the Blackcaps need to win at Trent Bridge to keep their hopes of taking the three-match series alive.
