Golf: Kiwi Lydia Ko makes lacklustre start to US Women's Open after disappointing first round

New Zealand golfer Lydia Ko has made a lacklustre start in her bid to claim the US Women's Open title after a disappointing opening round in North Carolina.

The 25-year-old shot a one-over round of 72, which included three bogeys, with one on the very first hole.

A second bogey on the seventh seemed to kickstart Ko into action as she would follow with a couple of birdies.

Ko shot three on the eighth hole for her first birdie, before a four on the 10th to grab a second.

But it was more of the same for Ko, as she suffered another dip to record her third bogey on the 15th hole after she shot six.

Her performance leaves her tied for 57th at the Pine Needles Golf Club.

Sweden's Ingrid Lindblad holds the early lead, two strokes clear of Australian, Minjee Lee and compatriot Anna Nordqvist.
