The Blackcaps have suffered a blow to their chances of victory in the second test against England, with lanky fast bowler Kyle Jamieson unable to take the field for day four at Trent Bridge.
Trailling 1-0 in the three-match series, New Zealand begin the day still 80 runs ahead of their rivals in the first innings and needing another five wickets before they bat again.
But Jamieson won't be part of that chase on Monday night (NZ time), after sustaining a back injury that forced him from the field midway through his 17th over on day three.
"Kyle Jamieson won't take the field on day four, as he awaits an MRI scan to determine the extent of the injury to his lower left back," the Blackcaps have tweeted. "Jamieson experienced sharp pain while bowling in the final session of day three, forcing him from the field."
After taking the four-pronged pace attack of Jamieson, Tim Southee, Trent Boult and Matt Henry into the contest, New Zealand have plenty of bowling options left, with all-rounders Michael Bracewell and Daryl Mitchell also on call to fill the void.
Jamieson joins the walking wounded, with captain Kane Williamson in COVID-19 isolation and all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme ruled out with a foot injury.
