Lea Tahuhu has returned to the White Ferns' squad, and will travel to Birmingham for this month's Commonwealth Games.
Tahuhu, 31, was initially excluded from the squad for the Games, after she and wife Amy Satterthwaite weren't offered central contracts by New Zealand Cricket in May.
But a foot injury to bowler Jess Kerr has opened the door for Tahuhu's return, after the 24-year-old failed to recover from the issue picked up during New Zealand's final match of this year's Cricket World Cup.
As a result, Tahuhu has been given another chance to prove her worth to the White Ferns, as a key senior player after Sattherthwaite's retirement.
"Lea is a familiar face so will be able to hit the ground running at training camp next week," new White Ferns coach Ben Sawyer said.
"We've previously said it's important not to confuse contracting with selection and this is a good example of why.
"Lea offers genuine pace and bounce with the ball and her ability with the bat gives us options."
Elsewhere, batter Lauren Down has withdrawn herself from the Commonwealth Games squad, in order to prioritise her well-being.
"Our first and main priority is ensuring both Lauren and Jess are looked after - it's never easy missing cricket tours," said Sawyer.
"We've ensured Lauren has the support she needs and hope she'll be able to join us again soon."
Central Hinds bowler Claudia Green has been named as Down's replacement, after previously touring England with the White Ferns in 2021.
The White Ferns will assemble in Lincoln next week, before departing for England on July 12 to continue their Commonwealth Games preparations.
