All Whites star midfielder Ryan Thomas hopes a 'rare surgery' on his knee will finally bring an end to a horrible run of injuries.
The 27-year-old is currently without a club after being let go by Dutch giants PSV, but continue to support their former player in his attempt to return to football.
Thomas made just 48 appearances for the club over a span of four seasons after joining them in 2018, after struggling with persistent injuries.
He tore his cruciate ligament just days after signing with PSV, and would only make his debut for the team 14 months later.
Thomas had a further two operations on his knee and ankle last year, which saw him miss the All Whites' World Cup intercontinental playoff match against Costa Rica.
But he hopes the best is yet to come after a 'rare' and hopefully last surgery. His kneecap was brought down in a bid to finally fix the problems in his joint, according to VoetbalPrimeur.
"I'd be lying if I said it was easy. But I just can't help it at all. I was born with these knees. But for an athlete it's not the way it should be," Thomas told Voetbal International.
"I definitely believe that I can still play well in the future.
"I have to work hard in the coming months and then we'll see what comes. I'm not concerned with the level.
"Even if I have to start in the First Division, that's not a big problem for the first six months. not my starting point. I will keep all doors open, but I will play football again in 2023. Absolutely."
