Kiwi Liam Lawson has secured his second victory of the 2022 Formula Two season, taking the chequered flag in the sprint race at Le Castellet, France.
Carlin driver Lawson, 20, started second on the grid behind Jehan Daruvala, but soon lost a place to compatriot Marcus Armstrong.
On the fourth lap, Lawson was able to get past Armstrong, sweeping to the outside into a turn, after a DRS (drag reduction system) zone.
A yellow flag and safety car kept the field close, as Lawson overtook Daruvala on the 16th lap, to move into the race lead.
Lawson complained of damage to his car from the overtake of his fellow Red Bull junior driver, but was able to push his advantage to more than one second and get himself out of range of Daruvala's DRS.
From there, Lawson drove home for victory, leaving the rest of the field behind him to make up the last two places on the podium.
Daruvala took second place, while championship leader Felipe Drugovich rounded out the podium in third.
Armstrong's chance of a podium finish was hampered on the 19th lap, as a collision with Theo Pourchaire saw him drop out of contention to settle for ninth place.
Lawson has the chance to add to his victory with the feature race on Sunday night (NZ time), albeit starting from ninth on the grid.
"We were able to win from second, I had a bad start and dropped back to third," Lawson said. "The car was really really good the whole race, especially from mid-race onwards.
"It came on really strong and we were able to make some nice moves to take the win. I'm happy with that.
"Tomorrow is the main focus now, and we need to try and move forward and make up as many positions as we can."
The sprint race win is Lawson's first since his upgrade into the reserve driver role with Formula One's Red Bull senior team, moving from Alpha Tauri.
The victory moves Lawson into sixth place in the drivers championship, with 71 points from 17 races so far this season, overtaking compatriot Marcus Armstrong in seventh.
Lawson's win is his first since the sprint race in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, back in Formula Two's second race weekend.
Aside from his two wins, Lawson also has one second placed finish at Bahrain, and three third placed finishes from Bahrain, Baku, and Silverstone.
