Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen has claimed his second straight Supercars victory at the Townsville 500 in dramatic fashion, winning the weekend's second race after championship rival Anton De Pasquale was penalised.
On the final lap of the 20th race of the season, Shell V-Power's De Pasquale hit Red Bull Ampol's van Gisbergen, sending the Kiwi spinning at the final corner.
And as van Gisbergen recovered to cross the line in second place, De Pasquale was hit with a five-second time penalty that saw him surrender the victory.
De Pasquale was relegated into second place, and saw van Gisbergen extend his lead at the top of the championship to 276 points.
"He had a go, you have to respect that," van Gisbergen said post-race.
"Car was good, but his was better, he ran me down... we'll have a chat later, I'm angry at the moment."
The victory is van Gisbergen's 11th of the season so far, taking his career tally to 65 in his Supercars career.
Van Gisbergen's win on Saturday ended his streak of four races without a victory, taking the chequered flag for the first time since the Winton Super Sprint in round five.
Monster Energy's Cam Waters completed the podium in third place.
