Wimbledon semi-finalist Cameron Norrie will turn out at next year's ASB Classic as the first major signing for the New Zealand tournament's 2023 return.
Norrie, 26, caught the eye at this year's Wimbledon, advancing to the final four, before he was defeated by eventual tournament winner Novak Djokovic.
Born in South Africa, but raised in New Zealand, Norrie is considered 'one that got away' from Tennis NZ, opting to represent Great Britain.
His signing is the first by new tournament director Nicholas Lamperin, who took over stewardship of the ASB Classic from Karl Budge earlier this year.
"The ASB Classic is such a great tournament, especially to start the year," said Norrie. "Hopefully, the crowds can get behind me there."
Norrie played at the 2019 ASB Classic, where he finished runner-up, after a wildcard entry, losing in the final to American Tennys Sandgren.
The tournament returns to Auckland in January 2023, after a two-year COVID-19 hiatus.
