All Blacks midfielder Jack Goodhue seems likely to miss the rest of the Rugby Championship, due to an ongoing knee injury.
On Saturday, Goodhue played for Northland in their National Provincial Championship win over Wellington, hoping to work his way back to full fitness and the All Blacks squad, but the knee injury that prevented him travelling with the team on their two-test trip to South Africa hasn't sufficiently recovered and now requires surgery.
Goodhue has been plagued by injury since his test debut against France in 2018 and hasn't featured for the All Blacks since their 2020 clash with Argentina. Braydon Ennor will remain with the squad as injury cover.
In more positive injury news, lock Brodie Retallick will begin his path back to the test arena with Hawke's Bay this weekend. Retallick fractured his cheekbone in the third-test loss to Ireland in July and missed the trip to South Africa.
Locking colleague Patrick Tuipulotu won't join the team at Christchurch this week, as he nurses the neck injury suffered during training in South Africa. Josh Dickson will stay in camp as cover.
Props Nepo Laulala and Ofa Tuungafasi have both recovered from their respective knee and neck injuries, but will remain with their NPC teams this week.
