All Blacks v South Africa: Springboks winger Kurt-Lee Arendse suspended four weeks for 'reckless' challenge

Springboks winger Kurt-Lee Arendse has been suspended for four weeks for his 'reckless' challenge in their win over the All Blacks at Nelspruit.

Arendse pleaded guilty after colliding mid-air with Beauden Barrett, as the All Blacks first-five tried to claim a high ball late in the test match.

Barrett fell headfirst, but eventually left the field at Mbombela Stadium on his own accord, and was immediately replaced.

He's since been cleared of any injury, and informed Newshub he is expected to be fit and available for the second test against South Africa at Ellis Park.

But Arendse will have to sit out all forms of rugby for the next month, following the suspension.

The review committee, chaired Kiwi Michael Heron QC, regarded the act of foul play as "reckless, highly dangerous and had a considerable impact on the victim player", but accepted it was not deliberate.

There were doubts Arendse would've been available regardless, having seemingly come off second best in the challenge, and was taken off in a stretcher.

His suspension will come as some relief for the All Blacks, as the Springboks winger was one of the standout performers for the hosts.

Arendse caused the All Blacks back-three all sorts of problems in the air, which prompted coach Ian Foster to question the legality of South Africa's 'jump ball' tactics after the test match.

"We're going to have a look at them chucking bodies in the air," Foster told Sky Sport. "We were pretty frustrated with that.

"The one in the first half we weren't very happy with and certainly the last one was very dangerous, but that's part of the game we've got to sort out. If they're going to just chuck bodies up and just throw people up in the air, it's a very hard thing to deal with."
