Black Ferns v Australia: Wayne Smith makes sweeping changes for second test in final pre-World Cup hit out

The Black Ferns have named two debutants to their side for the second and final O'Reilly Cup test against Australia, played in Adelaide on Saturday.

Director of rugby Wayne Smith has sprung a number of changes to the side that defeated Australia 52-5 in Christchurch, as the Black Ferns play their final test before the Rugby World Cup, held in New Zealand later this year.

Fullback Grace Steinmetz will make her test debut in the No.15 jersey, while front rower Santo Taumata will come off the bench for Wayne Smith's side, and moves Renee Holmes to the bench.

Steinmetz has played once for the Black Ferns, in 2020, but Saturday will be her first official test.

In the starting side, Ariana Bayler takes over from Kendra Cocksedge at halfback, while Chelsea Semple and Logo-I-Pulotu Lemapu form a new midfield combination, in place of Theresa Fitzpatrick and Amy du Plessis.

In the forwards, Luka Connor and Amy Rule both move into the starting side after coming off the bench last week, as Maiakawanakaulani Roos comes into the second row for Chelsea Bremner - who drops into the reserves.

Kendra Reynolds takes over in the No.7 jersey, moving co-captain Kennedy Simon into No.8 and dropping Charmaine McMenamin to the bench.

Also on the bench, Krystal Murray has been named to cover the front row, as Arihiana Marino-Tauhinui provides depth at halfback. Hazel Tubic also keeps hold of the No.23 jersey, after also starting on the bench last week.

Fitzpatrick and Tyla Nathan-Wong have both been released from Black Ferns duty in order to rejoin their sevens teammates, in order to prepare for their own World Cup next month.
