NRL 2022: Newcastle Knights investigating video of Kalyn Ponga, Kurt Mann being escorted from pub toilet

Newcastle Knights have launched an investigation, after fullback Kalyn Ponga and teammate Kurt Mann were seen being escorted out of a toilet cubicle.

In a video shared on social media, Ponga and Mann have been filmed being directed away from a toilet cubicle together, captioned "Ponga getting done in the toilet".

The incident is understood to have occurred last weekend, as their Newcastle teammates fell to a 28-10 NRL defeat to Brisbane Broncos on Saturday.

Ponga, 24, has been ruled out for the rest of the season, after suffering three separate concussion issues in 2022, while Mann is unavailable with a quad injury.

Ponga's father Andre has attempted to explain the video, telling Australia's Daily Telegraph he was unwell.

"He made an exciting house purchase Saturday and celebrated with a few mates drinking," Andre Ponga said. "Sick in the toilet and his mate went in to help him."

Under NRL protocols, players are expected to refrain from alcohol when dealing with head injuries.

Earlier this year, the Knights re-signed Ponga on a deal through to the end of the 2027 NRL season.

The Knights currently sit 14th on the NRL ladder and have won six games in 2022.

They are already dealing with a troubled culture within the club, after veteran front-rower David Klemmer clashed with a trainer on the field, refusing to be subbed off against Canterbury Bulldogs.
