NRL: NZ Warriors fall to another heavy defeat, as table-topping Panthers pounce at Penrith

The Warriors have fallen to another heavy defeat, as the Penrith Panthers ran in eight tries to claim a comfortable 46-12 victory at BlueBet Stadium.

In what was expected to be a walkover for the Panthers, it was the visitors who struck first against the run of play in just the first few minutes.

Warriors fullback Reece Walsh stunned the hometown fans to score the game's opening try, after forwards Tohu Harris and Dunamis Lui combined well in the middle.

Lui found Chanel Harris-Tavita inside their own half, before he linked up with a surging Walsh on his outside to send him over, much to the dismay of the locals.

The Panthers looked like striking back almost immediately, and on more than a few occasions, but were guilty of forcing the last pass. Centre Stephen Crichton had the tryline begging, but couldn't gather the ball.

But it wouldn't take long for Penrith to hit back, as Viliame Kikau showed greater awareness with his back turned against the Warriors defence, to find Taylan May with a no-look pass, to send his winger over for their first try.

The Panthers would cross soon after, this time through their other winger, Brain To'o. Penrith fullback Dylan Edwards and Crichton showed fast hands, before To'o cut back inside and crashed over for another Panthers score.

Warriors centre Viliami Vailea looked to have won the foot race to a Shaun Johnson grubber kick, but knocked on in his attempted grounding of the ball.

Panthers Kiwi prop James Fisher-Harris was a handful for the Warriors defence all game, igniting a number of Penrith attacks.

Once again, Edwards and Crichton showed fast hands down the right wing, catching the Warriors defence napping, allowing To'o to go over for his second try.

Kikau continued to cause the Warriors defence issues, as he somehow found Izack Tago from a standing start to put the centre in space.

Tago spun out of a tackle, before linking up with May, who found O'Sullivan to score the try out of absolutely nothing right on halftime.

If the first half was tough, the Warriors were dealt another blow at the break, with Shaun Johnson unable to return from the sheds due to an injury.

The Warriors were starved of the ball in the opening exchanges of the second half, as the Panthers looked to pounce on a fading defence.

O'Sullivan was again in the thick of the action, as he found an unmarked Kikau, who raced in for another Panthers try.

But the Warriors would hit back through Eliesa Katoa, after Harris, playing at first receiver, judged his pass to perfection to send him over for the Warriors' second try.

However, that was as good as it got for the visitors, as the Panthers would cross again through May, who strolled in for his second try after a simple set-piece move from the scrum.

May looked to have been in moments later for his hat-trick, but was ruled out because of a forward pass from Kikau in the lead up.

But the Panthers would cross one last time, as Walsh was adjudged to have dislodged the ball from Isaah Yeo's clutches as he bundled over for the penalty try and the victory.

Warriors 12 (Walsh, Katoa tries, Walsh 1x conversion)

Panthers 46 (May 2x, To'o 2x, O'Sullivan, Crichton, Kikau, penalty tries, Crichton 7x conversion)
