Bay of Plenty have prevailed 20-14 over Hawke's Bay in their National Provincial Championship clash at Tauranga on Saturday.
The win gives the Steamers rightful claim to the moniker of 'The Bay', while handing the Magpies their second straight defeat, just a week after losing the Ranfurly Shield to Wellington.
Led by a standout display by wing Emoni Narawa, the victory also secured Bay of Plenty's quarter-final spot in the Odds Conference on the back of a fourth straight win.
The visitors bounced back from a lethargic start to take a 14-10 lead into halftime, after tries to Devan Flanders and Ollie Sapsford.
But the hosts came out of the sheds with much more purpose. The took the upper-hand in both territory and possession, resulting in tries to Nikora Broughton and Nigel Ah Wong.
Hawke's Bay had some late opportunities but couldn't find the tryline in a scoreless second half, as they extended their winless streak at Tauranga to 11 years.
They'll round out their regular season against Tasman at Napier on Friday, while Bay of Plenty back up at home against Northland on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Tasman continued their rollercoaster season with a 52-17 demolition of Northland at Nelson, keeping their hopes of quarter-final berth alive.
The Mako bolted to a 21-3 at halftime and never relented, scoring seven tries to two to hand Northland a third consecutive defeat and deal a hefty blow to their chances of sealing a post-season spot.
Northland will need to beat in-form Bay of Plenty and hope other results go their way, while Tasman will look to determine their own fate with a win over the Magpies.
