NRL 2022: NZ Warriors second-rower Euan Aitken awarded Simon Mannering Medal

Departing NZ Warriors second-rower Euan Aitken has been awarded the Simon Mannering Medal as Player of the Year at the NRL club's 2022 awards ceremony.

Aitken, 27, received the award in front of fans at Mt Smart Stadium, after the side's Golden Point defeat to Gold Coast Titans.

The game against the Titans was his 21st of the campaign, and 35th and last for the club, as he delivered a typically reliable performance.

Aitken made 82 metres from 10 runs, as well as 37 tackles, with just one miss in an error-free final outing.

He took out the award ahead of the other finalists, hooker Wayde Egan and Warriors captain Tohu Harris, who had won the accolade the previous two seasons.

While his season was limited to 15 appearances after a delayed start to recover from knee surgery, Harris was awarded the Players' Player of the Year.

Marking his 10th appearance of the season with his seventh try, centre Viliami Vailea won the Rookie of the Year award.

The Clubman of the Year had joint winners for the first time, with middle forwards Bunty Afoa and Ben Murdoch-Masila unable to be separated.

Departing young fullback Reece Walsh took out the People's Choice Award.
