New Zealand's dominant win over an out of sorts Jamaican side may have been forgetful, but debutant's Elle Temu's heartwarming reaction during the anthem was anything but.
The defender donned the black bib for the first time, and played a starring role for the Silver Ferns in their Taini Jamison Trophy series-opening win in Auckland.
Temu disrupted several Jamaican attacks from the first whistle, and turned over plenty of ball, which resulted in great scoring opportunities for the hosts.
But despite her stellar performance, it was the touching moment when a tearful Temu caught the attention of her teammates during the New Zealand anthem.
She admits she didn't expect to cry, but the realisation of all the many years of hard work made for an overwhelming experience.
"Yes - I was actually 'okay, I got this', I was doing well, and then I think it all hit me at once," she told Sky Sports after the match.
"It was just so emotional and this is what I've worked, trained all my life for, so to be on the line, singing the anthem in front of my family is just amazing and that's probably why it all just came out at once.
"Yeah, I think it was awesome, especially going into a game straight from that because it is quite high emotion, so I'm grateful for the girls, they all said 'we got your back, let's go get it done', and it just helped me get it together."
Temu is already relishing the opportunity to represent New Zealand again after her first hitout, with the second test of the series on Thursday.
"I think I started well, it's fast, it's really fast, so just staying in it a bit more than I probably would've liked," she said.
"I loved the attacking side of it, and helped out whenever I could, it was awesome.
"It just means that I feel so welcomed, they all trust me to play and do my job and it just means the world."
