After a tough day at the office, Jessica Pegula went to lengths to get over her US Open loss to world No.1 Iga Swiatek, bringing a beer into her post-match press conference.
Pegula, 28, fell to a 6-3, 7-6 defeat to Swiatek in the quarter-finals of the US Open on Thursday, as the last American to exit the New York Grand Slam.
And asked about her beer in her press conference, Pegula outlined that it was to aid her in a doping test - despite the added benefit of helping her get over the defeat.
"I'm trying to pee for doping," Pegula said. "Although, it does help ease the loss."
The defeat brings Pegula's Grand Slam quest to an end for 2022, with three separate quarter-final losses to go with one from 2021.
Two of those losses, coming at Melbourne and Roland Garros, were also against Swiatek.
"I wish I could have done it here, at my home Slam," she added.
"I wish I didn't have to play Iga every quarter-final, or Ash Barty - which seems to be the two people who don't lose that often.
"I had a great year at the Slams. I know there's still some tournaments left.
"I'm a little deflated right now, I'm not really happy. It just sucks to lose, I just wish it would have been different.
"I'm sure tomorrow I'll wake up and see more of the positives, for sure."
