The victory was the Volunteers' over the third-ranked Crimson Tide powerhouse since 2006, snapping a 15-game losing streak against their rivals.
To mark the achievement, fans descended on one end of the field, overwhelmed security and began dismantling the goalposts.
Eventually, the posts crumbled under the weight of the masses and were carried off amid the bedlam.
