Golf: Kiwi Steven Alker storms to another victory to extend PGA Tour Champions lead at Virginia

Kiwi Steven Alker has continued New Zealand's recent run of golf success, winning the Dominion Energy Charity Classic at Virginia.

Alker birdied three of the final four holes to finish 14-under for the tournament and increase his lead in the Charles Schwab Cup overall standings with two events on the senior circuit remaining.

He chased down first and second-round leader Jerry Kelly for his fifth title in 31 starts on the PGA Champions Tour.

His win follows fellow Kiwi Lydia Ko's 18th LPGA Tour victory at the BMW Championship and Ryan Fox's fourth-place finish at the European Mallorca Golf Open.

Alker takes home US$334,000 (NZ$580,000) for the win, with the penultimate event for the Charles Schwab Cup starting November 14.
