Golf: Lydia Ko finishes third at LPGA's Texas Shootout after thrilling final round

Kiwi Lydia Ko has finished third at the LPGA's Texas Shootout, two shots behind winner Charley Hull at the Colony's Old American Golf Club.

Hunting her second win of the season, Ko, 25, made a charge on the final day, sinking six birdies, as part of a blemish-free final round.

Beginning her final round in second place at 10-under, Ko moved to 12-under from her first two holes, with back-to-back birdies on the first and second.

Another two birdies on the eighth and ninth moved Ko to 14-under and a share of the lead, alongside England's Hull and China's Lin Xiyu, but on the back nine, Hull began to move clear of the chasing pack.

Back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th holes put Hull two shots clear of the Ko, who missed the chance to put pressure on the leader.

The Kiwi broke her run of five consecutive pars on the 15th with another birdie, but Hull kept her two-shot buffer on the 14th, with another birdie of her own to move to 17-under.

Ko kept pressure on with another birdie on the 17th, but an eagle from Lin also took her to 17-under, moving Ko down the leaderboard to third.

And as Hull made birdie on the 17th, Ko was left needing an eagle on the 18th to force a potential playoff, but could only make par to finish, taking her fourth third-place finish of the year.

So far this season, Ko also has one win and one runner-up finish, to go with six more top-five placings and three top 10s.
