Injury-ravaged Football Ferns comfortably beaten by Japan at Nagano

Football Ferns have been soundly beaten 2-0 in their friendly against Japan at Nagano.

Missing several starters through injury - including captain Ali Riley and CJ Bott - the Kiwis posed little threat to the No.11-ranked Japanese, who dictated terms throughout the contest.

Hinata Miyazawa struck just minutes before halftime, slotting home low past NZ goalkeeper Vic Esson, after pouncing on a loose ball.

Japan's second came in the 61st minute, when Fuka Nagano's pinpoint cross found Riko Ueki, who steered a header past Esson's outstretched hand.

The defeat snaps a three-game unbeaten streak for the Football Ferns, dating back to their 2-0 loss to Norway in June.

They'll now return to New Zealand to face South Korea in two games at Christchurch early next month.
