Kiwis out to shine at world renowned Noosa Triathlon

The Auckland Marathon returns in all its glory on Sunday, with the event being held without restrictions for the first time since 2019.

And across the Tasman, there are a couple of Kiwis hoping to make a splash at Noosa, one of Australasia's biggest triathlons.

While it was all lighthearted fun on Friday on the Sunshine Coast, things get serious when the big guns compete on Sunday.

And no one does Noosa better than Australia's right-time champion Ashleigh Gentle.

I'm very appreciative of what this race has given me and I always want to come back here and do the best I can," Gentle told Newshub.

But the competition’s tough, with Kiwi Amelia Watkinson among those hoping to end that remarkable run.

Auckland’s Jack Moody is a starter in the men's race. He spent the first weeks of his life as a pro athlete training in Noosa.

"My dream goal would be to get up on the podium," said Moody. "It's a star-studded list."

And what better place to do it than in Noosa, which is the world's largest Olympic distance triathlon and consistently ranked in the planet's top 10.

"Noosa is a bucket list event," said Geoff Meyer, managing director of the Oceania Ironman Group.

"Everyone wants it on the list. We do get a great international contingent of athletes coming back."

"There's only a couple of Kiwis in the field, so it'd be nice to shake it up a little bit," said Moody.

Watkinson added: "Podium is a realistic goal for me, considering it's the first race back after a harsh bike crash."
