All Blacks and Chiefs forward Tupou Vaa'i has recommited with NZ Rugby until the end of 2025.
Plucked from relative obscurity by the All Blacks selectors in 2020 after just a handful of games as late-season injury replacement for the Chiefs, Vaa'i made his test debut at 20 against Australia the same year.
He's since earned 15 international caps, showcasing valuable versatility in his ability to play both lock and flanker.
Vaa'i, 22, has been named in the 35-player All Blacks squad to travel to Japan and Europe next month.
Head coach Ian Foster calls Vaa'i's re-signing "great news", as he continues to build his foundation for next year's World Cup in France.
"Tupou has really impressed in his time with the All Blacks and we see his signing as critical in our long-term plans," said Foster.
The Taranaki star is eager to add to his CV at the international level and his 31 appearances for the Chiefs, after a couple of seasons hampered by injury.
"I'm truly humbled and grateful to continue my journey with this team," said Vaa'i. "I believe we've got a good crew, so I'm excited to see what we can accomplish together moving forward."
Chiefs coach Clayton McMillan says the recommitment of the NZ age-group standout is a huge boost for his side.
"He has always been a player of immense talent and his achievements to date at such a young age validate that," McMillan added. "He is only going to get better with age and experience, which is an exciting prospect.
"There's no doubt he is going to be a significant contributor to the Chiefs and NZnd Rugby in the years ahead."
