Rugby League World Cup: Tonga, Samoa poised for blockbuster quarter-final after massive group wins

Tonga and Samoa have recorded huge wins in their last group games to set up a blockbuster quarter-final in the Rugby League World Cup.

Tonga registered their biggest ever test win by beating Cook Islands 92-10, with Parramatta Eels centre Will Penisini scoring four tries in the rout.

There were also try-doubles for Jason Taumalolo, Daniel Tupou, Tuimoala Lolohea and Tesi Niu as Tonga topped the group.

While Penrith Panthers winger Taylan May also crossed for four tries, as Samoa thrashed France 62-4 to finish second in their group, behind England.

Brian To'o, Tim Lafai and Anthony Milford all scored two tries, with the French unable to stop the waves of Samoan attacks at Warrington.

Samoa will now meet Tonga in the final quarter-final of the Rugby League World Cup on November 7, with the winner playing either the NZ Kiwis or Fiji in the semi-final.
