Kiwi Paul Coll has reclaimed his position as the No.1 squash player in the world, after the release of the latest PSA rankings.
Coll, 30, overtakes Egyptian Ali Farag, despite losing to his rival a week ago in the Egyptian Open final in four games at Gaza.
Because Farag's points for the 2021 Netsuite Open had expired, the pair have swapped places in the latest world rankings.
Known as 'Superman' among his rivals, Coll is delighted at his new position, during what he describes as an up-and-down season on the court.
"Just keep showing up," the Commonwealth Games gold medallist said on social media. "Been a crazy six months for me, unbelievable highs and lows, but we keep showing up every day, keep learning and keep growing.
"Body is primed, mind is elite."
He will have an opportunity to solidify his spot at the upcoming US Open at Philadelphia on October 17, which could set up a winner-takes-all final against Farag.
Egypt's Mostafa Asal, Peru's Diego Elias and England's Mohamed El Shorbagy round out the rest of the top five in the updated rankings.
Kiwi brothers Lwamba (91) and Temwa (128) Chileshe also feature, with the former achieving a career-high.
Meanwhile, NZ squash queen Joelle King has retained the No.5 spot in the world, with the top five unchanged and Egypt's Nouran Gohar ranked first for a 27th consecutive week.
Palmerston North native Kaitlyn Watts is the next best Kiwi at No.96, followed by Abbie Palmer at a joint 158 in the rankings.
Both Watts and Lwamba have been awarded wildcards to the PSA Silver tournament and the NZ Open at Tauranga in October.
