Twenty20 World Cup: Blackcaps' final warm-up match against India ruined by rain

Heavy rain in Queensland has ruined the Blackcaps final warm-up for the Twenty20 World Cup, washing out Wednesday's clash against India without a ball bowled.

Persistent rain in Brisbane saw three no-results recorded on the final night of scheduled warm-up matches, before the tournament's Super 12 stage begins on Saturday.

Only 22.2 overs were bowled in the first warm-up match between Afghanistan and Pakistan while the Blackcaps' clash against India and Bangladesh v South Africa were both called off without a ball bowled.

Thursday's no-result means the Blackcaps begin their campaign against hosts Australia on Saturday with only a nine-wicket defeat to South Africa as match practice, coming after the T20 tri-series final defeat to Pakistan last Friday.

Meanwhile, in Hobart, test playing nations West Indies and Ireland boosted their chances of progressing into the Super 12 stage, with wins over Scotland and Zimbabwe respectively.

After both falling to defeat in their first matches, Ireland scored their first points with a six-wicket victory against Scotland, while West Indies claimed a 31-run victory over Zimbabwe.

The two victories leave all four sides in Group B of Super 12 qualifying with one win and one defeat from their first two matches, with the top two sides to progress into the next round.

Scotland currently tops the group thanks to a positive net run rate, while Zimbabwe is second.

Ireland v West Indies and Scotland v Zimbabwe will decide which two teams progress.

In Group A, Netherlands and Namibia top the standings after two matches, while heavyweights Sri Lanka sit third and risk an early exit unless they can win their final game - against the Dutch - on Thursday.
