9:30pm - RAIN DELAY

Sorry guys, no sign of movement with the covers at Hagley Oval, ran still teeming. The match will likely be losing overs now.

9:10pm - RAIN DELAY

Update - it's still raining. But there is plenty of time remaining for a shortened match should the rain subside and they're able to dry the outfield.

What I'm saying is - yes, there's a chance.

8:40pm - RAIN DELAY

Full covers are now out on the Hagley Oval pitch and the rain is falling pretty heartily. We'll bring you another update as soon as one is to hand.

8:22 pm - RAIN DELAY

Uh oh. The rain has finally caught up, and the teams are on their way off the park as the covers come out. We're an agonising two overs away from an official match. Fingers crossed when can get back out there shortly, otherwise - despite NZ being 50 runs ahead on DLS - we're looking at a washout.

18th over

Arshdeep returns to the attack. Conway pulls for two. Blasts one through midwicket for four to bring up the NZ 100. Seven off the over.

17th over

Umran continues. Allen helps a poor ball down leg on its way to the boundary for four. Steady drizzle out there now. OUT - Great catch at midwicket by Yadav and that ends an excellent innings by Allen.

Finn Allen c Yadav b Umran Malik 57 (54b 8x4 1x6 )

Out strolls the NZ skipper. Beaten nick and crop first ball by Umran.

16th over

Washington back with his leg spin. BANG! Allen leans back and crushes it over long-off for six to bring up a high-quality half-century off 50 balls. Nine runs off the over.

15th over

Umran continues. Hitting 147km/h with the wind at his back here, pretty rapid. Blackcaps with all the momentum right now, they've negotiated that difficult early period well and are scoring steadily now.

14th over

Washington back with more spin. Conway punches to mid-on for a single. They trade three more singles, four off the over.

13th over

It looks absolutely freezing out there, as Umran continues. Allen pulls through square leg for two. Pulls again, this time through midwicket for two more to end the over.

12th over

Washington Sundar up with the first over of leg spin. Conway plays him straight for a single. Tidy start, four off the over.

11th over

Umran Malik to bowl his second. Allen slashes square for four. Plays a late cut through gully for consecutive boundaries. Digs the next off his toes into open spaces, they come back for three. But of urgency here by NZ, there is a hint of ominous weather out there. 12 off the over.

10th over

Chahar switches ends, greeted by a well-timed prod for four by Conway. Goes again, this one gets the full follow through, textbook by Conway for four more. Make that three in a row! Conway cuts a full toss square to the fence, easy pickings. Leans back and cuts for the fourth boundary of the over. 16 from it.

9th over

First bowling change, paceman Malik into the attack. Couple of looseners result in wides. Conway steers a single to third man. Allen punches off his backfoot for two through cover. Stands and delivers a crunching straight drive for four to close.

8th over

Arshdeep to bowl his fourth. Wide and a leg bye to start. Allen hooks deep and high to fine leg, fielder can't quite get there and it heads to the rope for four. Six off the over. Solid start here by the NZ openers.

7th over

Conway drives Chahal to mid-off for a single. Allen slashes at a wide one. Chahal thought he had a wicket and looked confused nobody shared his belief. Wise not to review that, nowhere near. The next ball certainly found the edge, but the ball runs between first and second slip for four.

6th over

Arshdeep again for India. Swings one down leg, clips Allen's thigh pad as he glances and they'll earn four leg byes from it. Half chance! Allen doesn't time his straight drive and it just clips the bowler's fingers as it trickles to mid on. Allen goes hard at a wide ball and gets a healthy edge over slips down to third man for four.  Eight off the over.

5th over

Chahar back to the bowling crease. Three dots to start. Conway leaves a couple, pays to be cautious in these conditions. Lovely cover drive races away for four, picture perfect by Conway.

4th over

Arshdeep continues. Conway top edges a pull shot to fine leg for a single. Allen glances a ball swinging down leg fine for the first boundary of the innings. Five off the over.

3rd over

Allen a touch edgy over the slip cordon for a single off Chahar. Conway finally off the mark, works a single to third man. Two off the over.

2nd over

Arshdeep opens from the other end. Peach first up, beats Conway all ends up. Ton of movement off the seam. Repeats that dose a ball later. Early indications are that this will be no walk in the park for the Blackcaps. Squares Conway up, small inside edge on to his pads. Maiden over, superb start by Arshdeep.

1st over

Chahar takes the ball first. Allen whips the first ball off his pads for two to open the NZ account. Some encouraging movement here early. The wind is really whipping across Hagley now, puffer jackets in full effect across the embankments.

6:50pm

Kia ora, cricketheads! The teams are back out on the Hagley Oval turf for the NZ chase. I'm certainly stating the obvious here, but India need early wickets to stand any chance here. Many early wickets.

The surface looks green, so don't be surprised if the winner bowls first!

2:09pm

All of the covers have been removed from Hagley Oval. We should be good here, unless more rain starts to fall.

The crowd has started to build nicely. Today's match is a sell out - which is really the bare minimum when India are in town.

2:04pm

The official word from the middle is that the toss has been pushed back to 2:15pm, but other than that we should (fingers crossed) be on for a full game!

2:00pm

Good afternoon! The good news is that it looks like the weather will hold (for now).

There have been covers on the pitch this morning, but they've started to come off.

We'll let you know what happens with the toss, and if there are any delays as soon as we know!

***********

Kia ora, good afternoon and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of the third one day international between the Blackcaps and India, from Christchurch's Hagley Oval.

After two games, one of them a washout, the Blackcaps head into today's series finale unable to lose the series, with a 1-0 scoreline in their favour after last week's win at Eden Park.

But that won't see any respite from New Zealand, wanting to finish the first leg of their home summer on a high, before they head to Pakistan to play out the festive period in Pakistan.

The Blackcaps are unbeaten in home ODIs dating back to the start of 2019, although that last defeat did come against India.

The only real threat comes from - you guessed it - rain.

Inclement weather has been forecast over Christchurch this afternoon, which could be a huge spanner in the works for a sold out Hagley Oval.

Today is the Blackcaps' last home fixture for the next eight weeks, with New Zealand not turning out on home soil again until mid-February after this series.

TAB odds: New Zealand $1.62, India $2.20

Teams (predicted):

Blackcaps: 1-Finn Allen, 2-Devon Conway, 3-Kane Williamson (c), 4-Daryl Mitchell, 5-Tom Latham (wk), 6-Glenn Phillips, 7-Michael Bracewell, 8-Mitchell Santner, 9-Matt Henry, 10-Tim Southee, 11-Lockie Ferguson

India: 1-Shikhar Dhawan (c), 2-Shubman Gill, 3-Shreyas Iyer, 4-Rishabh Pant (wk), 5-Suryakumar Yadav, 6-Deepak Hooda, 7-Washington Sundar, 8-Deepak Chahar, 9-Umran Malik, 10-Arshdeep Singh, 11-Yuzvendra Chahal
