Not a lot you can say about that one really. India were equally as good as New Zealand were poor, and take an unassailable 1-0 lead in this series.

Suryakumar Yadav was unquestionably the hero, making 111 not out and completely knocking the wind out of the Blackcaps.

New Zealand will need to go back to the drawing board if they're to earn a series draw when these two sides meet again in Napier on Tuesday.

That'll be all from us tonight - so thank you for joining us, and we'll see you again soon!

Kia ora, good evening, and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of the second Twenty20 International between the Blackcaps and India, from Mt Maunganui's Bay Oval.

After what was supposed to be the series opener on Friday was washed out without a ball bowled, I'm afraid to say tonight might be a repeat dose.

Storms are forecast for the Bay of Plenty, so we could be in for a shortened match - if we get any play at all. Regardless, tonight's affair is a sellout.

Otherwise, this series serves as a kind of bronze medal match that never happened from the Twenty20 World Cup earlier this month.

Both sides were knocked out of the running in the semi-finals by Pakistan and England respectively.

India have named a weakened squad, resting star batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, leaving Hardik Pandya to captain the side.

The Blackcaps meanwhile have opted to go without the former stalwart pair of Martin Guptill and Trent Boult, looking to the future instead.

TAB odds: Blackcaps $1.73, India $2.02

Teams (predicted):

Blackcaps: 1-Finn Allen, 2-Devon Conway (wk), 3-Kane Williamson (c), 4-Glenn Phillips, 5-Daryl Mitchell, 6-Jimmy Neesham, 7-Mitchell Santner, 8-Ish Sodhi, 9-Tim Southee, 10-Adam Milne, 11-Lockie Ferguson

India: 1-Ishan Kishan, 2-Shubman Gill, 3-Suryakumar Yadav, 4-Shreyas Iyer, 5-Rishabh Pant (wk), 6-Hardik Pandya (c), 7-Washington Sundar, 8-Harshal Patel, 9-Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10-Arshdeep Singh, 11-Yuzvendra Chahal
