Rugby League World Cup: NZ Kiwis enforcers promise to bring physicality to semi-final against Australia

NZ Kiwis coach Michael Maguire says his side are primed and ready to face Australia this weekend, conceding they haven't reached their potential so far in the Rugby League World Cup.

While many have written New Zealand off, Maguire's more than confident they have the ability and experience to knock the world champions off their perch.

Cast your eyes across this Kiwis squad and it doesn't take long to realise they have plenty about them, but their coach concedes they haven't hit their straps, as he would have liked.

"We've got a lot more in us, I won't disagree with you there, but I've seen passages of play, where I've been really pleased," insists Maguire.

Mere passages won't be enough against the Kangaroos, so he will call on some of the game's biggest stars to rise to the occasion.

With Grand Final winners, veteran leaders and pure crowd pleasers, Maguire believes they have all they need to get the job done.

"Across my team, I've pretty well got a group of players that have played at that top end," he said. "A lot of them have played international games and been together for some time."

The Kiwis are sending a message to their old foes they shouldn't be taken lightly.

Penrith star Moses Leota is back in the squad, while Marata Niukore and Jared Waerea-Hargraves are still on their way back from injury, but even without a couple of key enforcers, prop james Fisher-Harris isn't about to back down.

"Usually games are won up front," he said. "We're going to make it personal.

"We'll be ready to go, so will they. We'll see what happens."

For Maguire, it really is this simple.

"The expectations from the team have been set," he said. "We're playing Australia in a World Cup semi-final, so we're all looking forward to it."

With the world's best going head to head, who wouldn't be.
