The Black Sox have been handed their first defeat of this year's Softball World Cup, defeated 7-0 by a rampant USA in Auckland.
Defeat sees the Black Sox with one win and one loss from their start to this year's World Cup, following Saturday's 3-1 victory over Czech Republic.
A rain delay could only halt the inevitable for New Zealand, as both sides were left waiting for Canada and Denmark to finish their encounter at the same venue.
But the start of play saw New Zealand on the ropes, as the USA needed no second invitation to inflict pain on their hosts.
The third inning proved to be New Zealand's undoing, falling from 1-0 down to 5-0 down, as USA ran in four.
At 1-0 down, Blaine Milheim cleared the fence at centrefield as he and Nick Mullins both came home.
Then, down 3-0, Erick Ochoca cleared the fence to see himself and Cameron Schiller in to push the lead out to 5-0.
From there, the Black Sox failed to get their way back into the contest, and were shut out altogether before being put out of their misery.
The Black Sox have the chance to rebound, albeit a tough ask when they face reigning world champions Argentina on Monday.
