UFC 281: Israel Adesanya, Alex Pereira square off at weigh-ins before main event showdown

Kiwi Israel Adesanya and rival Alex Pereira have squared off one last time, before they meet in anger at UFC 281, New York City on Sunday (NZ time).

The two went face to face at the ceremonial weigh-ins at Madison Square Garden, where Pereira stole the show with his elaborate indigenous Brazilian headdress.

'The Last Stylebender' will attempt to defend his middleweight title for a sixth time against Pereira, who boasts two kickboxing wins over the UFC's No.2 pound-for-pound fighter.

One of those was a vicious knockout, the only time Adesanya has been finished in his combat career.

Both fighters looked typically calm and confident on the stage, but the story was different earlier backstage at the official weigh-ins.

While Adesanya took the scales early and hit championship weight of 185lbs (83.9kg) on the mark, Pereira seemed to have more difficulty, stripping down with just five minutes remaining in the official window to register 184.6lbs (83.7kg).

Adesanya's City Kickboxing teammates Brad Riddell, Dan Hooker and Carlos Ulberg all comfortably made weight for their respective bouts at lightweight and light-heavyweight.
