Boxing: No delays as Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk want heavyweight unification bout in early 2023, says promoter Bob Arum

Boxing's heavyweight division is one step closer to unification, with title holders Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk agreeing to fight each other next.

Between them, 34-year-old Fury and 35-year-old Usyk hold all of heavyweight boxing's major titles.

After victories over Anthony Joshua in 2021, Usyk holds the WBA, WBO and IBF belts, while Fury is in possession of the WBC title, won against Deontay Wilder in 2020.

A bout between the two fighters would see the victor claim all four major titles, and unify the division for the first time since Lennox Lewis in 1999.

And after the pair came face-to-face following Fury's victory over Derek Chisora earlier this month, both fighters teased a unification bout is on the cards.

Speaking to Sky Sports UK, Fury's co-promoter Bob Arum says both fighters want the bout as their next move, with early 2023 mooted as a date.

"The two fighters have agreed to fight each other next," Arum told Sky Sports. "Both of them want the fight and so there'll be very little, if any, [messing] around.

"So we'll be able to make that happen. I'm very, very confident.

"As I said the fighters have both agreed to fight each other next without any interim fights."

Arum also said while no venue has been locked in, offers from London's Wembley Stadium and the Middle East have been made to promoters.
