Cricket: White Ferns impress with waiata to greet Bangladesh before series opener

One of the protocols around a traditional Māori greeting is responding with a song.

Some perform that requirement better than others - count the White Ferns cricketers among those that can carry a fair tune.

The NZ women have welcomed the touring Bangladesh side at Christchurch, with the first of three T20 internationals scheduled for Friday night, followed by three one-dayers.

Lead by the Kerr sisters - Amelia on guitar and Jess on vocals - the Ferns even employed some useful two-step choreography to complement their vocal skills.

Bangladesh looked a little shellshocked by the cool weather in the Garden City, but visited New Zealand earlier this year for the ODI World Cup, where they rolled Pakistan by nine runs, but fell to the Kiwis by nine wickets in round robin play.
