In a perfect world, All Whites goalkeeper Oli Sail would not be watching the Football World Cup from Wellington.
After their intercontinental defeat at the hands of Costa Rica for the final spot at the tournament, Sail and his national teammates have had to come to terms with their absence from the Qatar tournament, and admits to a bad case of FOMO - Fear Of Missing Out.
The pain is doubly acute, knowing he also qualifies as an Australian and having to watch the Socceroos progress out of poolplay.
"As everyone knows, I'm really close with [former Wellington Phoenix teammate] Cammy Devlin, and spent a lot of time talking to him this tournament and just saying how proud of him I was," he told Newshub's Narelle Sindos.
Devlin has gone viral with a video of him snagging superstar Lionel Messi's jersey after Australia's Round of 16 loss to Argentina, much to Sail's amusement.
"I was, like, holy shit, this is crazy," he said. "The thing that astonished me the most is that Messi's actually shorter than Cammy and I didn't know there was anyone shorter than him."
