The Black Ferns Sevens have won the Cape Town Sevens after a dominant performance over World Series leaders Australia in the final.
Just eight days on from their narrow loss to their rivals in the Dubai final, New Zealand reponsded with an emphatic display in wet conditions.
After finishing unbeaten in pool play, the Black Ferns looked to be cruising in their semi-final against Ireland until a late try meant for a nervy final two minutes.
New Zealand lead 14-nil at the break, with captain Tyla Nathan-Wong and Michaela Blyde both scoring first half tries.
Ireland hit back through Amee Leigh Murphy Crowe to reduce the Black Ferns Sevens' lead to just a converted try, New Zealand hung on to secure their spot in the final against Australia.
As the only other unbeaten side, Australia cruised into the final with huge wins over USA and Great Britain in the knockouts.
The Black Ferns looked to have made the perfect start to the final after it looked as if Jorja Miller had crossed in the opening minute, but the TMO ruled she had gone out of the field of play.
But New Zealand wouldn't have to wait much longer to score the game's first try, with Shiray Kaka beating her opposite defender and racing away.
Skipper Nathan-Wong then extended their lead after pouncing on a loose pass to go in untouched underneath the goal posts.
Nathan-Wong crossed for her second try right before halftime to give New Zealand a handy 21-nil lead at the break.
Heavy rain meant for a tighter second half, but that didn't stop Michaela Blyde from further strengthening New Zealand's hold with a brilliant individual try.
Australia would hit back immediately through Madison Ashby, who ran onto the ball to sprint from well inside her own half to score her team's first try.
But that would only delay the inevitable, as veteran Kelly Brazier went over in the left corner after a clever steal by Nathan-Wong.
Australia would have the last say with Demi Hayes scoring from the resulting restart, but it was too little, too late, as New Zealand won 31-14 to clinch the Cape Town Sevens title.
Black Ferns Sevens 31 (Nathan-Wong 2, Kaka, Blyde, Brazier tries; Nathan-Wong 3 con)
Australia 14 (Ashby, Hayes tries; Du Toit 2 con)
