New Zealand have dispatched Great Britain - again - to reach the women's semi-finals of the Dubai world series tournament.
After overcoming the British 19-12 in their opening pool game, the Black Ferns Sevens found themselves drawn against them again in the quarter-finals, after the familiar foes qualified among the best third-placed finishers.
Britain struck first, with an opening try to Abbie Brown, but the contest was oneway traffic from there, with speedster Michaela Blyde dotting down twice for the Ferns, and Shiray Kaka and Mahina Paul once each.
The NZ roster has started the 2022/23 series without many of the Tokyo Olympic gold medallists that crossed over to 15s for last month's World Cup triumph, namely Sarah Hirini, Portia Woodman, Ruby Tui, Theresa Fitzpatrick and Stacey Fluhler.
"We've got a new group, so we don't really look back at the Olympics," admitted veteran Kelly Brazier. "We played them on day one and it was pretty close, so we knew we had to tidy a few things up.
"We were a bit sketchy in the first half, but the way the subs came on and changed the game got us there in the end."
They now face USA in the semis, after the Americans shaded Ireland 5-0 late in their quarter-final, while archrivals Australia have had to come from behind to beat Fiji 38-21 on the other side of the draw.
The Aussies will face France in the other semi-final.
Meanwhile, the All Blacks Sevens made no race of their quarter-final against France in the men's quarter-finals at Dubai, prevailing 20-0 to advance into the final four of their draw.
After crashing to ninth at Hong Kong last month, the NZ men needed a rare victory over Fiji in poolplay to make the knockout stage and continued their improved form against the French, who had gone unbeaten in their group.
Tone Ng Shiu, Akuila Rokolisoa and Leroy Carter scored tries for New Zealand, who led 5-0 at halftime, before Kurt Baker slotted a late penalty to seal the victory.
They face South Africa - 24-19 winners over Samoa - while Ireland and USA meet in the other semi.
