Cricket: Blackcaps auction off signed shirts from historic test win over England for Cyclone Gabrielle victims

The Blackcaps will auction off two signed shirts from their historic test win over England at Wellington to help raise funds for those devastated by Cyclone Gabrielle.

NZ Cricket and ANZ have teamed up to form the 'Pitch In' fundraising initiative to assist Red Cross New Zealand Disaster Fund, with all ticket sales from the Blackcaps' ODI opener against Sri Lanka at Eden Park on March 25 to be donated.

ANZ will also donate $1 million to the cause, with the public able to contribute by texting 'DONATE' to 540 to receive a link, with all funds going directly to the Red Cross fund.

Blackcaps captain Tim Southee hopes being able to donate two shirts from their one-run follow-on victory at Basin Reserve can further motivate Kiwis to get involved.

"The players really wanted to do something to help so we got together with a few of the England players and secured a signed shirt from each the Blackcaps and England sides to auction off," he said.

"We encourage people to get behind the campaign and play a part in helping the many Kiwis who've been so badly impacted."

Fast bowler Neil Wagner also praised the initiative and revealed despite their intense two-match series, their thoughts were never far away from those doing it tough.

Wagner was at the forefront of New Zealand's famous victory at Wellington, and hopes everyone can get behind the good cause.

"Obviously, a pretty special moment in a close historic test, we thought getting t-shirts signed by both teams to try and raise funds for [the] Red Cross relief fund would go a long way to helping in a small, little way for the people that's been affected by the cyclone," he said.

"Our thoughts and prayers have been with everyone throughout this time, we know there have been a lot of people who have been doing it tough.

"It's just something small so that the public can get amongst it and behind it on the 25th of March with the game at Eden Park to raise some funds for a really good cause. It's a nice thing for us to try and get involved in."
