The Brisbane Broncos have claimed the 'Battle of Brisbane' bragging rights after a thrilling win over NRL newcomers the Dolphins in front of a packed-out Suncorp Stadium.
The inaugural derby lived up to the pre-match hype, as over 50,000 fans watched as the Broncos clinched a narrow 18-12 victory.
Trailing by just two points with a couple of minutes remaining, the Dolphins had a chance to steal the win with an attack inside the opposition 10m.
Anthony Milford's grubber kick could only find Broncos centre Kotoni Staggs right on his tryline, before he set off on a length-of-the-field sprint to score in the corner and seal the four points.
The Dolphins had clawed their way back into the contest after an early spurt of domination from the Broncos, with former NZ Warriors fullback Reece Walsh leading the way.
Winger Jesse Arthars crossed for the game's first try, before Walsh found Selwyn Cobbo with a stunning cutout pass to double the Broncos' lead.
But the Dolphins struck back through experienced prop Jarrod Wallace, who crashed over from close range to reduce the lead.
The deficient was then completely annihilated, with Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow showing a great turn of pace to win the race to a Milford grubber kick and put the Dolphins up 12-8.
With just 10 minutes to go, Adam Reynolds held the ball up perfectly, before releasing Kurt Capewell on a 40-metre charge to tie the game, with the conversion edging them in front.
A late Broncos error gave the Dolphins great field position to hit back in the dying moments, only for Staggs to put an end to an incredible derby match.
