NZ Warriors star Shaun Johnson wasn't the only family member to thrill fans at Mt Smart Stadium, after a come-from-behind win over Canterbury Bulldogs.
Soon after the veteran half turned back the clock to score the matchwinning try in a comeback NRL victory, daughter Millah had Warriors faithful swooning, as she celebrated with her dad, even signing autographs.
"How good is it to be home," posted mum and Silver Ferns netballer Kayla Johnson.
More than 18,000 turned out for a fixture that marked a fulltime return for the Warriors to their spiritual home, after spending the past three seasons largely based across the Tasman during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Shaun Johnson, 32, was particularly affected by the absence, with wife Kayla raising their baby and pursuing her internantional netball career back in New Zealand.
Under new coach Andrew Webster, the Warriors have made a winning start to the 2023 season, with three victories from their first four outings, including the 16-14 result over the Bulldogs.
The Johnsons have announced they're expecting a second child in July.
"I'm always really impressed with athletes who go back after pregnancy," said AM host Melissa Chan-Green, herself expecting a baby.
"Here I am thinking it would be quite an achievement if I just come back and sit at a desk after I've had a baby, and there they are playing like they've just had a little bit of time off."
