Blackcaps star Mark Chapman's Twenty20 heroics have seen him added to the one-day squad to play Pakistan, after his series-drawing knock.
Chapman struck an unbeaten century to guide New Zealand to an unlikely victory in the fifth T20 against the hosts to save the series.
His blistering knock of 104 runs rescued the Blackcaps at a crucial stage of the match, with his side three down, chasing an imposing target.
He and Jimmy Neesham put on an unbeaten 121-run partnership to complete the comeback and stun Pakistan.
Chapman finished the T20 series as the top runscorer and has been rewarded with a call-up to the ODI squad.
Blackcaps coach Gary Stead says his performances have been extremely compelling and he deserves an extended run in such form.
"The way Mark's played against one of the best T20 bowling attacks in the world has been nothing short of outstanding," he said. "His matchwinning knock in the fifth and deciding match was particularly special, and we're happy to have someone in such strong form added to our ODI squad."
The five-match ODI series begins on Thursday (NZ time) in a day/night match at Rawalpindi.
Stead only arrived in Pakistan on Monday to assume coaching duties, with Shane Jurgensen in charge of the Blackcaps for the T20 series.
Chapman has revealed how he found out he had been added to the ODI squad and praised Neesham's influence on his matchwinning effort.
"After the game today, I was packing my bags and he [Stead] said, 'You can just slow down, we want you to stay' and I'm thankful they're keeping me on," he said. "I had to check back into my room, because I already paid my bill and checked out.
"I had my suitcases at the ground, ready to go, and brought them back to the hotel and unpacked, and had to get another room key.
"Jimmy's got a lot of experience, and the way he came out and batted positively took a lot of pressure off of my shoulders.
"We chatted through different match-ups, and took different options and different bowlers down, and thankfully, we were able to do it today."
