Golf: Rain delay costly for Kiwi Ryan Fox entering final round of US Masters debut at Augusta National

Kiwi Ryan Fox has tumbled down the US Masters leaderboard on the fourth day, after heavy rain forced suspension of play in the third round at Augusta National.

The field returned early to the course on Monday (NZ time) to complete the previous day's play, which was cut short by inclement weather in the area, but the interruption did nothing to help Fox's cause.

Sitting at three under par and tied for 14th when the siren sounded on Sunday, the world No.37 dropped two shots over the remaining seven holes of his third round - including a disastrous double-bogey at the par-three 16th - and was quickly in trouble, as he began his final round.

His approach shot at the par-four third fell short and an attempted pitch-and-run also rolled off the front of the green, as he carded another double-bogey six, before dropping a further shot at the fourth.

Fox, 36, took one back at the par-five eighth, rolling his third to within a couple metres of the pin and nailing the put, then another at the ninth.

With nine holes to play, Fox, 36, was square for the round, one under for the tournament, after losing a stroke on the day - 10 shots behind leader Brooks Koepka.

Koepka held a two-shot lead over Spaniard Jon Rahm, after the completion of the weather-suspended third round. The pair booked their spots in the final pairing with rounds of one-over 73.

Norway's Viktor Hovland moved to eight under with a 70 in the third round, highlighted by a streak of five consecutive birdies on 11-15.

American Patrick Cantlay was in solo fourth place at six under, after a four-under 68. Russell Henley (third-round 71) and Japan's Hideki Matsuyama (70) were tied for fifth at five under, with amateur Sam Bennett (76) and Colin Morikawa (74) another stroke back and tied for seventh.

Five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods withdrew from the tournament, citing an ailing right foot in a teet announcing the decision. He finished at nine-over par.
