NZ Warriors captain Tohu Harris has been withdrawn from the line-up to face Cronulla Sharks on Sunday, after failing his fitness test on a knee injury.
The veteran lock suffered his injury during the first half of the victory over Canterbury Bulldogs at Auckland's Mt Smart Stadium last week, but tried to play on and was forced from the field soon after the restart.
Coach Andrew Webster named his skipper in the starting line-up against the Sharks, hoping he could prove his readiness by gametime, but was forced to drop him 24 hours before kickoff.
"He's like a self-doctor, analysing it every day," joked Webster midweek. "He's a chance of playing.
"We're going to give him right until the end, until later in the week to make that decision. The most experienced players know their body, don't they, and he's saying 'I'm a chance', so we'll just wait and see."
Dylan Walker has been promoted from the interchange bench, with Josh Curran added to the reserves.
The Warriors hope to extend a promising start to their tenure under Webster, winning three of their first four games and rallying from a dire position to edge the Bulldogs.
